Leading tourism figures, local residents and celebrities came together in Monchique on July 24 to mark the official inauguration of the latest five star resort in the Algarve.
The Longevity Wellness Resort in Monchique is the first resort of its kind in Portugal, specialising in preventative medicine and the therapeutic management of longevity and ageing and includes the first integrated medical spa in a resort environment.
More than 400 guests attended the event, including regional and national politicians, local dignitaries and English television presenter Jasmine Harman from the Channel 4 programme A Place in the Sun – Home and Away, with live entertainment being provided by Fado singer Mafalda Arnauth.
Despite the official inauguration being held last Saturday, the resort itself has been open to the public since March 21 and already employs 76 members of staff, a quarter of whom are from the Monchique area.
