A court hearing took a turn towards the unexpected when one of the accused jumped out of a first-floor window and escaped, and is still to be found by the police.
The peculiar incident occurred in Alcácer do Sal, in the district of Setúbal, when the 23-year-old foreign man was being heard in court alongside two accomplices on charges of theft at a supermarket.
“He was in the courtroom and suddenly jumped through the window and began to flee. No one could have expected that possibility because the window is about five metres from the ground,” a source from the GNR district command of Setúbal told news agency Lusa.
The policemen present in the court as well as the available local forces were dispatched to capture the man.
The same source added that they also had officers patrolling the local roads.
However, the man has still not been found.
