Man sentenced for Albufeira homicide found hiding in Spain

34-year-old linked to jewellery store robberies and a 2022 homicide in Albufeira captured in Alicante

A 34-year-old British man wanted in Portugal for several crimes – including the violent murder of another British man inside an Albufeira apartment complex as well as a jewellery store robbery – has been arrested in Alicante, Spain.

The arrest was carried out by the Guardia Civil, in a joint judicial operation between Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

The man had been previously convicted in Portugal for the murder of a man in April 2022 inside an apartment in Albufeira. According to reports in the British press, the victim was stabbed multiple times in the chest, back, arms and hands. A 16-year prison sentence had been handed down by Portimão Court, but he had fled before it could be enforced.

The suspect is also linked to a robbery at gunpoint at a jewellery store in Esposende, north of Portugal, on January 21.

Further inquiries connected him to additional crimes, including a vehicle theft, document forgery, and another jewellery store robbery in Esposende on April 14.

The man is now awaiting extradition to Portugal, where he is set to begin serving the 16-year sentence.
