McCanns – no excuse for behaviour

Dear Editor,

The McCanns are back trying to make more money out of the disappearance of their daughter and trying to stay in the headlines.

No normal person with a halfway clear head would leave three little children alone in a strange environment in a foreign country, while being out wining and dining with friends.

Also, the complex offers babysitting services. Why not use it?

I am a mother and after my divorce I had to bring up my son on my own, so I know what I´m talking about.

Going on holidays, I travelled with a nanny, being at home I made sure that there was always a reliable servant keeping an eye on my son until he was about 12 years.

So, there is no excuse for these people. They failed as parents and I hope, one day, they will be brought to justice. All my friends share this opinion.

I have been living in the Algarve for about 20 years and reading the Algarve Resident every week, but I will stop buying it if this paper has nothing more to offer than articles about charity events, dogs and the McCanns.

Editor’s note: Dear Leonie, thank you for your comments. We hope you will continue to read the Algarve Resident. Our aim is to provide the English-speaking reader with news and information about the Algarve, in which our community plays a big part. It is inevitable that we will have to publish information about charity events or dogs if they involve or affect members of the community. Regarding the McCanns, although as a newspaper we remain impartial and report only on the facts, we mustn’t forget that a child is still missing.
