A large dog was shot dead in Moncarapacho (municipality of Olhão) on Monday night – ostensibly in an act of legitimate self-defence. According to the story subsequently published, the dog was unaccompanied and unleashed, and tried to attack the dog of a former Army soldier, who happened to have a licensed gun in his possession – which he used to fatal effect. The gun and munitions have been ‘apprehended’ by police who have opened an inquiry into the incident.
