DUE TO the devastating forest fires that have hit the Algarve in recent years, Pat Allen of AFPOP wanted to help the Lagos Bombeiros, by sourcing better, more up-to-date equipment for them.
She contacted Robin Boyles, a firefighter from RAF Croughton, UK, in the hope of getting some fireproof gloves and trousers. She was delighted when Robin donated 110 second-hand fireproof uniforms instead, which have been supplied, free of charge, by Operation Florian, an organisation which helps poorer countries, funded by the UK’s Ministry of Defence. Encase Ltd, a cardboard box manufacturer from England donated all boxes for the uniforms to be packaged in, also free of charge and AIM removals (see Business Directory) transported the uniforms to Lagos from the UK.
