POLICE ARRESTED the mother of the newborn baby girl who was found dead on Olhos d’Água beach, in Albufeira, last Tuesday (August 21).
The 26-year-old mother was arrested on Friday and is being held in preventive custody in Odemira women’s prison, in the Alentejo. Police could not confirm her nationality but they said she was not Portuguese and is being charged with first degree murder.
Allegedly, the woman was in denial throughout her pregnancy and when she gave birth in her home, she threw the baby into the sea last Monday.
