Silves Câmara, the Algarve tourism board and the regional culture department have requested a meeting with the creditors of Fábrica do Inglês, site of the prestigious Cork Museum, in Silves to try to find a solution for the future of the space.
Meanwhile, the Museum Conservation Institute has demonstrated its willingness to safeguard the document archive of the Cork Museum, which is considered of great historical value.
The museum won the award for Best Industrial Museum in Europe in 2001 but was forced to close its doors due to the insolvency of the Alicoop group, the largest shareholder of Fábrica do Inglês.
