Music and heritage come together

A number of Algarve landmarks considered regional tangible heritage are receiving a series of musical performances named “Ouvir as Vozes do Património” (Hearing the Voices of Heritage) by the University of the Algarve Choir.

The first performance of the series took place on September 28 at Loulé Castle but three more are scheduled, beginning on October 12 at Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Guadelupe in Raposeira, Vila do Bispo, at 6pm, followed by another performance on October 26, at the same time, at Estoi’s Igreja Matriz church. The final show will take place on November 16 at 4.30pm at the fortress in Sagres, in the Santa Graça church.

Choir conductor Ivelina Kavrakova-Pereira said: “By paying tribute to the composers who marked their immortality by leaving mankind their unforgettable pieces, we will evolve with music and grow with culture.”

The initiative came about as part of a protocol signed between the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the University of the Algarve.

All performances are free of charge.
