ON DECIDING where to go for my work experience, one of the local newspapers was something that I had expressed an interest in from the beginning.
It was something I had been interested in doing as I am quite interested in newspapers and media, but more so the sport side of things. The Resident was mentioned as someone from our school had been sent there last year and, therefore, the school already had established a link between themselves and the company.
On my first day, I was shown around the office and introduced to the other members of staff. They all seemed friendly and made me welcome.
Through the course of the week, I was mainly writing articles. Sometimes this was fun as I was writing things that I was interested in such as film and music reviews.
I found this interesting as I was going on the internet and finding out about the artist or film I was going to write about. For example, with the Jack Johnson music review, I found out a lot of things that I did not know about him.
Other times the writing could be a bit boring. I was also given different tasks to do such as proofreading the classifieds. This involved reading through them and checking for any errors. I also went out of the office on two of the days. On one of the days, I went to Porches and did a business profile of an estate agent.
I also went to Albufeira and asked businesses there the effect of not having any of the British teams at Euro 2008. I found this the most interesting part of the week.
Overall I enjoyed my time at The Resident and I think it was a great experience.
