Starting in September, getting around the Algarve by bus will become simpler and cheaper with the launch of the new “Passe Algarve.” For €40 a month, passengers can travel on all VAMUS network routes – except the AeroBus airport service – without worrying about distance, line changes, or number of trips.
The pass was approved earlier this month by the Algarve’s mayors at the AMAL municipalities association meeting and is made possible through the Incentiva +TP public transport funding programme.
Says AMAL, existing passes priced below €40 will remain unchanged to avoid penalising those who don’t need full regional coverage, and free passes for all young passengers will continue.
One of the main reasons AMAL, as the regional transport authority, and VAMUS decided to introduce this new pass was to make bus travel in the Algarve gradually more modern, affordable, comfortable, and better suited to the real travel needs of residents and visitors, while offering an attractive price to encourage the use of public transport over private cars.
Sales are expected to open from August 26.
