INTERNATIONAL RIDERS from across southern Portugal attended a training day at the Alentejo’s new equestrian centre.
Dutch international judge and trainer Jet Van Oers put riders through their paces before giving an insight into what a judge is looking for when they watch a test and how to interpret the scores received.
Julian Mead and Pru Clayton-Mead hosted the day at their newly opened Equus Ourique. Set in 16 hectares, the centre has facilities for training of both riders and horses, together with livery facilities covering all aspects of preparing the horse, from foal to advanced competition.
During this coming winter it is planned to stage five dressage competitions with prizes for winners in each stage, culminating with an overall prize for the most accumulated points.
Further competitions, including jumping, are being scheduled for next year. Pru also stocks specialist horse feeds and edits the Equus bulletin, providing a diary and forum for equine enthusiasts.
