Two tortoises weighing more than 20 kilos each have found a new home at Lagos Zoo after their British owners had to return to the UK.
The tortoises had been purchased legally in Spain and lived with the British couple in the Algarve but when the couple had to return to the UK, they sought help from the environmental group A Rocha who then contacted Lagos Zoo for help.
Now the tortoises (Geochelone Sulcata), which are the largest continental land species of tortoise, live with other species at the Zoo where they can be viewed by visitors.
