A new hotel at Martinhal beach in Sagres will officially open its doors to the public today (Friday).
The five-star boutique Hotel Martinhal is part of the Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel project.
It offers 38 bedrooms, including two duplex suites, providing guests with “a fantastic sea view” and a wide range of “high quality infrastructures, with the emphasis on O Terraço restaurant”.
The hotel is surrounded by the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina.
The architectural design was led by Britain’s Matthew Wood of Conran & Partners, who designed the hotel from local materials, using modern construction techniques and geometric shapes.
The interior, designed by British designer Michael Sodeau, “reflects a comfortable luxury, modern and clean design”.
Materials characteristic of the region, such as cork, natural rattan, oak, dark walnut, stone SVC Syenite from Monchique and palm fibre produced and woven by a local craftsman, were incorporated in the interior design of the project. Other facilities include a swimming pool, a spa and restaurants.
