NEW, UNIFORM sign posts will be erected this year around the Algarve on all crossroads and municipal access roads to tourist sites.
More than 1,900 sign posts will be erected on roads along the Algarve in a project that is due to take until the end of the year.
There will be three main colours for the tourism sign posts: blue for rural tourism and hotels, orange for golf courses and bowling greens and brown for beaches and protected areas.
The agreement was signed at the Museu Municipal de Faro and presided over by Bernardo Trinidade, Secretary of State for Tourism, Luis Patrão, President of Turismo de Portugal and Mendonça Pinto, the Regional Director of Economy.
Bernardo Trindade told the press: “These signs are going to be very important to help homogenise the Algarve’s tourist image”, adding “we want to take this project to Lisbon and, in a later stage, to the rest of the country”.
The initiative, which has a total cost of 380,000 euros, has been developed by the Regional Directorate of Economy, the Instituto de Turismo de Portugal and the local government. Vila Real de Santo António is the only municipality not involved in the project.
