PORTUGAL’S NURSES union has announced that it may organise a national strike at the beginning of September.
The union wants a new career regulation and the recruitment of more nurses in public hospitals and it accuses the government of not considering its proposals.
The union also claims that the Health Ministry is not paying the nurses for extra working hours and says there is a deficit of several thousands of nurses in the public health services in the country.
Negotiations between the union’s representatives and members of the Health Ministry were expected to resume before the end of the week.
