Obituary – Victor Graham

May 15, 1926 – April 10, 2013

Actor Victor Graham, well known for his partnership with Suzanne Jefferies in The Jefferies English Theatre, passed away on April 10 in England after a prolonged illness.

Victor and Suzanne produced and acted in many popular plays in the Algarve and were appreciated for their dinner theatre performances at the Hotel Garbe (now Algarve Holiday Inn) and other venues. Among these productions were The Kingfisher by William Douglas Home and The Gin Game by D.L.Coburn.

Their production of A Month of Sundays by Bob Larbey at the Cineteatro Louletano was given in a gala performance, in aid of the Portuguese Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Society, to critical and public acclaim.

Having trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Victor enjoyed a long career in the theatre playing various Shakespearean roles before appearing in television comedy.

He was the comedienne Hilda Baker’s friend ‘Cynthia’ (she knows you know!) and appeared with her at a Royal Command Performance where he met The Queen.

He also worked with Morcambe and Wise and eventually ran his own theatre company, The Victor Graham Players, at The Theatre Royal in Ayr, Scotland, for 40 years.

Victor, along with Suzanne, encouraged many aspiring actors in the Algarve and, even with his advancing years, never forgot a line, a skill which was always a comfort to those of us who, with lack of experience, occasionally did!

Victor will be very sorely missed and our thoughts are with Suzanne at this sad time. John Griffiths
