A 16-YEAR-old girl was bitten by a two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier, which was put down after the attack in the village of Barão de São João in Lagos on June 28.
Seraphina Cichowski, a German who has been living in Portugal for 10 years, said she was attacked and bitten as she was walking in the street.
“The dog didn’t even bark or look at me, he just attacked me,” she said. The owner, a Danish man who has noT been named, had the dog put down after the attack.
It has been reported that the victim was critical of the dog’s owner because, she says, he did not ask her how she was or offer to pay her hospital bill of more than 100 euros.
Henrique Santos, a friend of the dog’s owner, told a Portuguese newspaper that the dog was aggressive towards strangers but it had escaped onto the street through a door that was left open. By the time the owner went out to get the dog, it was already attacking the girl.
António Correia, the president of the Junta de Freguesia of Lagos, said that several complaints had been made to the GNR about the dog and its owner had been warned in the past.
