Lisbon detectives with the homicide squad of the PJ judicial police are investigating the disappearance of a young Russian, Mikhail Gordeev, who lived and worked legally in this country, with his husband.
Gordeev has not been seen by his friends since Monday, writes Correio da Manhã today – and he has not responded to repeated telephone calls or emails.
He was due to meet friends at a shopping centre near Marquês de Pombal on Monday afternoon, and simply didn’t turn up.
The friends and his husband ended up using geo-localisation technology to track Mikhail’s phone, which they saw pinged in three locations: Saldanha, in Lisbon, as well as the municipalities of Mafra and of Loures.
According to CM, in Saldanha, the group “discovered objects linked” to Mikhail, namely a pair of iPhone AirPods. This is what led them to believe that something untoward might have happened to him, which saw the situation taken to PJ judicial police.
CM stresses that just because the homicide division is investigating this case “does not mean inspectors believe in a crime scenario” but that “scenarios of kidnap or death have not been discarded”. In other words, all theories are open, as investigators try to discover more about Mikhail’s life, in order to see if there is anything in it that might explain what has happened to him.
CM describes a young man who designs furniture, has his own studio, and lives quietly with his male partner. “Mikhail Gordeev and his husband have helped innumerous compatriots become legalised in Portugal – and this fact is being investigated, principally to examine the relationships of the Russian, both on a professional and personal level”, says the paper.
Mikhail is described as ‘anti-Putin’, but not involved in any way in politics. He apparently “never showed himself to be interested in the political activities of his country, although he opposed the form in which Vladimir Putin exercises power”, says CM.
