Portugal has been “thanked” for the vote taken last week in parliament that called on the government to recognise an independent Palestinian state.
Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organisation’s executive committee said on Sunday: “This significant vote constitutes a step in the right direction for peace.”
The non-binding resolution follows similar symbolic motions passed recently in France, Britain, Spain and Ireland.
