POLICE IN Spain have arrested 121 people in an operation against internet child pornography which uncovered millions of images and spanned 75 countries worldwide.
According to Spanish police, two of the people detained were using their own children to make pornography and a further 96 were charged with possession and distribution.
Those arrested included people from a variety of professions such as bank clerks, porters, airline pilots and foreign residents in Spain.
A police spokesman said that around 800 officers were involved in conducting 210 searches in 42 different provinces that “seized millions of archives of videos and photographs, some of which show extremely harsh abuse of minors.”
The arrests were made over a seven day period after an investigation which started in July 2007 with the cooperation of the authorities in Brazil.
International leads gained from the investigation will now be passed on to Interpol to be followed up.
