A proposal by the Communist Party (PCP) to create a regional autonomous port authority has been rejected by the Government.
After the creation of the port and maritime transport institute (IPTM) in 2002, the Algarve lost control of its ports. However, in 2008, regional administrations were created for every region except the Algarve.
The PCP stated that the PSD and the CDS-PP parties don’t put into practice what they sometimes agree to do. In the Algarve, they proclaim to support port development, but do not implement it through government procedures.
