sent by 4,460 photographers from 124 countries from all over the world. The winning photo shows a group of young Lebanese in a soft top sports car in a destroyed neighbourhood of Beirut.
The photo was taken in 2006, after an Israel bombing attack. On the same day, August 16, many Palestinian people were returning to their homes, hence it was the first day of the cease-fire agreement between Israel and the Hezbollah.
The exhibition also includes the works of Portuguese photographers who entered the seventh Prémio de Jornalismo Visão/BES, a national competition also about photojournalism.
This year’s winner of the Visão/BES competition was Manuel de Almeida, a Portuguese reporter working for Lusa, the national news agency. The Portuguese winning photograph was taken in Timor and shows a United Nations soldier carrying an injured policeman. This competition, which started in 2000, is already the most important in its type in Portugal.
