Portuguese mum keeps child in car trunk … for two years

A girl, aged around two – the daughter of a Portuguese woman living in France – has been found in the boot of her mother’s car. The child had apparently lived there all her life.

Mechanics in Terrasson-Lavilledieu, in the Dordogne, made the horrific discovery after the mother brought the car in with a problem to its electrical system and they heard strange noises that sounded like “moans” coming from the rear of the vehicle.

Speaking to La Montagne newspaper, mechanics said they think they found the child just in time as when the mother went to pick her up, the child’s head just ‘slumped’.

The little girl was naked and dehydrated and had been lying on top of rubbish bags. The smell of urine and faeces was apparently overpowering.

As the child was rushed to the local hospital, the parents were interrogated by police.

According to La Montagne, the mother, 45, took the blame, saying her husband did not know the child even existed.

The woman confessed to having hidden her pregnancy from family, friends and neighbours.

The French Public Prosecutor has confirmed that the child will most likely suffer life-long physical and mental handicaps due to her enforced incarceration.
