Portuguese troops left this week on a six-month deployment in Kabul to assist the NATO-led ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) mission in Afghanistan, to replace a contingent of 150 Portuguese troops serving with ISAF in Afghanistan since March. The departure of the Portuguese peacekeepers had been delayed twice for operational reasons.
