CAP, the Confederation of Portuguese Agricultors has spent roughly €128,000 promoting Portuguese wines in Third World countries.
Quoting from the government’s online portal (base.gov.pt), national tabloid Correio da Manhã says that a group of 14 people spent €53,514 on various promotion trips to Colombia, Mexico, Peru, the United States of America, Hong Kong and Singapore last year, taking with them €74,900 worth of ‘materials’.
Why the last three countries are considered to be “Third World markets” is not immediately clear, but CM suggests contracts were forged in all territories.
