Posh in town

By CHRIS WRIGHT

Not Victoria Beckham but Peterborough United. The Posh play Olhanense tomorrow (Saturday) evening in a pre-season warm-up game at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão, kick-off 7pm.

Peterborough were relegated from the Championship last season but a number of new signings during the summer should see them challenging for a swift return.

Olhanense’s new manager Daúto Faquirá will have an opportunity to see some of his new signings in action for the first time.

Cameroon centre-forward Jean Paul Yontcha has signed on a two-year contract from Belenenses.

Former Benfica goalkeeper Moretta, right-winger Jorge Gonçlaves, midfielders Delson (Larissa, Greece) and Fernando Alexandre (on loan from Sp.Braga) will all help to strengthen the squad.

Confirmation is expected of the capture of former England U17 international Nathan Porritt, who was with Middlesbrough last season.

Castro and Ukra, on loan for the last two seasons, have returned to FC Porto while another loanee, goalkeeper Ventura, has moved down the coast to Portimonense.

On Saturday, July 17, Nottingham Forest are the visitors with a 9pm kick-off.

Forest missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season when they lost in the play-off semi-finals to Blackpool.

NEW SEASON STARTS WITH HOME GAME

Olhanense will entertain V.Guimarães, who only missed out on a UEFA Europa League place on goal difference, over the weekend of August 14 and 15.

The following week they travel to Coimbra to play Academica, where Jorge Costa is now manager.

September sees two exciting games, with a visit to Lisbon to take on Sporting on the 11th/12th, with the big local derby against Portimonense in Olhão the following weekend 18th/19th. Fans will have to wait until May next year to welcome the league champions Benfica.
