Some 100 people gathered outside the Albufeira post office at Rua do Túnel on May 20 to protest against its possible closure.
Protesters showed their indignation with posters in Portuguese and English.
The President of Albufeira Traders Association, Luís Alexandre, told Lusa news agency: “I am outraged with the eventual closure of this post office. This is the oldest post office in Albufeira and is part of the city’s patrimony and cultural values. The nearest post service is about 1km away.”
He added: “It has been proposed that a post office service be provided from within a stationery shop a few metres away. However, the 30sqm space is too small.”
Protesters are now preparing to complain to the Faro Civil Governor and Albufeira Câmara.
