VILA DO Bispo Câmara is insisting the construction work in the Loteamento dos Carriços at Salema beach is legal and is expecting the government to intervene.
The Câmara has rejected the decision of the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, which ordered the embargo of some construction works on private villas.
The Resident contacted the Ministério do Ambiente, the government representative in environmental issues, in an effort to clarify the situation but no-one was available for comment.
In an email, Câmara president Gilberto Viegas insisted that the administrative authorisation for the construction is legal: “It is an urban area completely urbanised and with permits to build”, he said.
The information received by The Resident confirms that the Loteamento dos Carriços has a compatibility certification from PROTAL, the main development plan for Algarve region.
It also says that the decision by the park was discussed at a meeting with the Câmara executives on May 29, who decided to make a special appeal to the Ministério do Ambiente.
The response from the government department has, however, “still not arrived at the present moment”, the Câmara said.
