Quick-thinking neighbours in Almancil tipped off police when they saw a man carrying a knife, rope and some gasoline making for the home of his ex-partner.
According to Correio da Manhã newspaper, police burst in on the ex-partner’s home just as her former lover was about to stab her.
The man ‘reacted violently’ but was restrained and now faces charges of resisting arrest as well as attempted murder.
The paper added that both the man’s neighbours and his former girlfriend had pressed charges over domestic violence, and that his current partner has also suffered abuse.
