Rotary District Governor visits Algarve clubs

Every year the serving Rotary District 1960 Governor visits each club in the district. Current Governor Fernando Martins from Rotary Club Palmela has been spending time with clubs in the Algarve.

During his official visit to Rotary Club Estoi Palace International, he visited the community projects the club has been involved with during the past year, namely the ongoing milk project with the Casa do Povo in Estoi, the refrigerated vehicle recently donated to the Food Bank in Faro, and the facilities at the volunteer firefighters in São Brás de Alportel.

Accompanied by club president Shirley Dunne and vice president Jim Bell, the Governor had the privilege of presenting the São Brás Bombeiros with two items of much-needed equipment – a paediatric board and a ventilator – purchased as part of the District Simplified Grant programme in which the district contributes one-half of the total cost of a project.

Initially the equipment was included in the matching grant project to purchase a fully-equipped ambulance, but when the funds became available, it was decided to purchase these two items for immediate use. They will be added to the ambulance when it arrives later this year.
