The exciting three-way battle for this season’s World Supersport crown continued in the US at the weekend.
Leading Parkalgar-Honda contender Eugene Laverty again showed that his CBR 600RR machine is ultra-competitive, earning provisional pole before only being bettered during the final qualifying session by Hannespree Ten Kate rival Kenan Sofuoglu.
It took a new Miller Motorpark track best time to give the experienced Turk first place on the grid in Salt Lake City, a feat he bettered during the race itself with a new lap record.
Despite these superhuman efforts, Laverty remained in touch throughout taking the chequered flag in second only one second behind his adversary.
Sofuoglu, who thus recorded his first win since Portimao, is now six points ahead of Laverty in the overall standings, with third-placed Joan Lascorz just behind.
Meanwhile, the Algarve track team’s Tiago Araujo achieved an excellent third place at the Motosport Vodafone national speed championships in Estoril.
