Sea drowning

A 14-YEAR-old girl of Portuguese nationality was taken to Santa Maria hospital in Lisbon on Saturday after drowning at a beach near Óbidos, north of Lisbon, that did not have a lifeguard.

Vanessa Pedro became tired while swimming in the sea with her 16-year-old sister Flávia Pedro, after they had been diving. Flávia Pedro told Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã that she and her sister had been diving with lead belts when Vanessa suddenly “lost her strength” as they started swimming across a deep section towards their father’s fishing boat.
