SEWAGE SMELLS should be a thing of the past in Tavira once a new sewage treatment plant at Cabanas is completed later this summer.
The new plant will render six old sewage plants and three septic tanks obsolete.
Estações de Tratamento de Águas Residuais (ETAR), the sewage management company, has built the new plant on 2.1 hectares of land with the capacity of treating more than twelve thousand cubic metres daily. This corresponds to the treatment of waste from a population of 48,000 people, which the town expects to reach by 2025.
