PORTUGUESE AUTHORITIES have approved a programme to help treat prisoners convicted of sex related crimes like paedophilia and rape.
The purpose is to prevent any future relapse of the convicted when reintegrated into society.
The programme will be tested in a first stage in two prison facilities under the supervision of the psychology department of Minho, a university in the north of Portugal. Details on the programme are not being revealed as it is in an initial stage.
According to official figures, between April and June 2008, a total of 187 people were convicted of sex crimes.
