A PORTUGUESE tourist was shot in the face and leg while relaxing by the swimming pool near Lila’s Guitar Bar in Armação de Pêra on Tuesday afternoon.
George Nash, the owner of the bar, told The Resident what he had witnessed: “A young Portuguese lady, in her 20s, was suddenly surrounded by people near the pool. It looked like something had happened to her and she came running into the bar very distressed, holding her face, and asked me to telephone the police.”
“When I spoke to her, I saw that she had been shot above her lip and on the back of her left calf,” said George Nash, adding: “Little metal bullets were lying on the ground by the swimming pool.”
He said that when the local GNR arrived, the victim gave a statement about what had happened. They collected the bullets

as evidence and said they would return in plain clothes the following day to watch the area.
“I know that whoever did the shooting could only have been in one of the apartment blocks overlooking the swimming pools and garden but no one was seen” said George Nash.
He said a similar shooting happened six to eight weeks ago in the same place but no one was injured. “When I contacted the police they said there wasn’t much that could be done at the time.”
A spokesman for the GNR told The Resident: “We can confirm that shots were fired around 5pm on September 4, but no suspects have as yet been identified. We believe that it may have been children or teenagers who fired the shots as a joke of very bad taste.”
The weapon used has been confirmed to be an air rifle, which the GNR suspect was fired from one of the towers that overlooks the swimming pool area.
“The victim is a Portuguese woman who has said she will make a formal complaint but as yet has not done so,” said the GNR spokesman, adding: “Plain clothed officers will be patrolling the area.”
