Silves Medieval Fair success

SILVES RETURNED to the past recreating the history, culture and traditions of the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries during the Medieval fair which ran from August 9 to 15.

This year, the popular fair was bigger including many more activities than during the previous years and attracted many tourists and visitors from around the region.

Each day, the fair opened at 5.30pm, allowing visitors to view the 200 stalls selling arts and crafts, food and drink and much more.

the city, near the Câmara municipal and near the Rua da Sé, for visitors to borrow until midnight each evening.

Isabel Soares, President of Silves Câmara, said: “This event has been organised because we believe that Silves should be different due to its history, culture, heritage and architecture,” adding: “It is our annual cultural event.”

belly dancers, jesters and fire jugglers who wandered the city, and also a Medieval band of drummers.

Silves Medieval Fair is integrated in the Allgarve programme, being supported by the Região de Turismo do Algarve (RTA) and the Ministry of Economy.

Meanwhile, Castro Marim will be hosting its Medieval Festival from August 23 to 26 at the town’s castle.
