Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) in association with The Conrad Algarve recently held a Sports Fair in the grounds of the hotel.
Visitors to the fair were given an opportunity to try out various sporting activities including tennis, golf, electric bikes, yoga, Zumba, Pilates and even boot camp classes.
Martial arts (Bujinkan) and American football clubs also demonstrated their skills. As well as sporting activities, also on offer were free massages and advice on aromatherapy and healthy eating.
After all the activities, more than 90 people sat down to a barbecue prepared by the hotel’s chefs, with music provided by saxophonist Martin Teutscher.
Thanks to the exhibitors and the many local sponsors, €4,000 was raised which will be used to provide equipment and other necessary supplies to Associação dos Doentes Mentais, Famílias e Amigos do Algarve (UNIR), a charity with premises in Loulé. Under the leadership of Margarida Trindade and her staff of eight, day care facilities and activities are provided for up to 22 adults with learning disabilities.
“The event was a great success,” said AIRC President Dr Raymond Parfait. “We couldn’t have achieved it without the co-operation of the Conrad’s general manager, Joachim Hartl, events manager Sara Pile and of course our grateful thanks go to our exhibitors and generous sponsors.
“AIRC has supported UNIR many times in the past and we hope to continue to do so in addition to the other local organisations we support from time to time.”
AIRC meets weekly at the Conrad Algarve.
