Stolen tiles

SEVERAL PANELS of antique tiles, which were stolen from public and private buildings in Lisbon between 2002 and 2007, have been recovered by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ).

These items, which included border tiles from the 17th century and four tiled panels dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, one of which is worth around 50,000 euros, were found at the Lisbon fair, Feira da Ladra, and for sale on internet websites.

A statement released by the PJ said that stall holders who were selling the stolen tiles have been made suspects, arguidos, but that the investigation is still continuing.
