Street name

A STREET in Moscow is to be renamed in honour of former Soviet dissident, Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

The street currently named Great Communist Street (ulitsa Bolshaya Kommunisticheskaya) will become Alexander Solzenhenitsyn Street.

Books by Solzenhenitsyn exposed human rights abuses committed by Stalin’s regime and he won the Nobel Prize for his painstaking work in chronicling the Stalinist dictatorship abuses.

Solzenhenitsyn only died on August 3 but a new law in Russia allows streets to be named after people who have been dead less than 10 years.
