Students Prize 2018 artwork on show

The second “Students Prize 2018” art exhibition opens at the reception of Lagos Marina on February 22 at 5pm.

Nigel Anteney-Hoare, managing director for Sovereign – Consultoria Lda who organise the Students Prize 2018 competition in Portugal, said: “The main purpose of the Prize is to inspire, encourage and reward young artists in the community, to encourage cultural development and raise funds for disadvantaged children in the region.”

The 20 artworks chosen from the submissions from Algarve secondary schools are being exhibited to the public at various locations in the Algarve with the winners of the competition being announced at a final event on April 28 to be held at Lady in Red Galeria de Arte in Lagoa.

The first two winners are chosen by the judges and third prize is awarded to the artwork which has been voted by the public, both online and directly during the public exhibitions. Vote for your favourite at www.SovereignArtFoundation – Algarve Prize.

The winners’ schools will also receive a prize from the total prize money of €4,550.

Following the prize ceremony, the artworks will be auctioned to the public with the proceeds being divided between the artists and a deserving local charity, which this year is School Art Projects, art and poetry workshops organised by local artists David Trubshaw and Gudrun Bartels, with the support of Silves Rotary Club.

Together they run workshops for children and students of all ages in the Algarve and will be producing a hardback book to showcase the children’s work as well as the 20 finalists from the Students Prize.

Proceeds from the book sales will be going towards the construction of a sensory room being built at Casa do Povo in Messines, and Sovereign will be adding the funds raised from the auction to support this cause.
