Sole Portuguese Superstars Series representative Filipe Albuquerque shone on the opening day of last weekend’s Motor Park extravaganza by winning the first race in his Audi RS4. Having seen off the strong challenge of the likes of former F1 pilots Johnny Herbert (Chevrolet) and Gianni Morbidelli (BMW M3), the Coimbra ace was then forced to withdraw from the second leg with mechanical problems.
In the GT Sprint event, local fans had more to cheer about as Cruz Martins steered his Ferrari F430 into excellent fourth and second places.
Between the competitive events Albuquerque took time out to test Parkalgar’s brand new karting track while ex-Grand Prix stars Giancarlo Fisichella and Jean Alesi were among those present to conduct tests on the new track in preparation for next July’s Le Mans Series 1000km of the Algarve night race.
