Applications for the new state subsidy for the purchase of electric vehicles – retroactive to January 1, 2025 – can be submitted from today via the Environmental Fund website.
The application period runs until 12 February 2026 “or until the available budget (of €17.6 million) is exhausted”.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Energy, requirements are that the vehicle purchased must be new and that the purchase involves the “scrapping” of a fossil fuel car that is over 10 years old.
Light electric passenger vehicles can receive between €4,000 – €5,000, depending on the type of beneficiary, and their price cannot exceed €38,500 (including VAT and associated expenses) or €55,000 for vehicles with more than five seats.
For bicycles (cargo, with or without electric assistance, and electric and conventional), the support amount ranges from €500 – €1,500. Electric motorcycles, mopeds, tricycles, and quadricycles can receive an incentive of up to €1,500.
Chargers for electric vehicle batteries are also eligible for state support.
The measure included in the Green Mobility package “aims to support the decarbonisation of the transport sector, which is responsible for most carbon emissions in Portugal”, as well as “improving the quality of the environment and encouraging the use of more sustainable modes of mobility”, says the ministry.
