Swifts in Alvor

Dear Editor,

As a frequent visitor to the Algarve, I visited Alvor and noticed the fantastic number of swifts, up to 300, which are breeding in the unfinished building next to the Torralta complex.

As a bird enthusiast, I am sure this is the largest colony in Europe.

These, I feel, must be protected at all costs and one hopes the site will be preserved as a visiting point for bird watchers.
