The police’s lack of interest

Dear Editor,

I currently live in England, owning property in Moncarapacho for the last eight years and visiting the Algarve three or four times every year.

One additional comment I would like to make is if the Portuguese police do not get a grip on the ever increasing crime in the Algarve, the number of tourists will continue to diminish.

Our friends have a lovely townhouse in Luz Tavira. They got broken into last week; police were called but not interested.

Our friends near São Brás, Tavira and Olhão have been burgled; again police not interested.

I know a lot of English people going back to England because of this reason. Having read your article a few weeks ago concerning Loulé and the surrounding area, I am not surprised.

Please can you put pressure on and ask the Portuguese police chief to get interested before they have far less tourists and expats to look after?

This may be a good topic for the next poll?

Editor’s note: Dear Brian, thank you for your comments. The Algarve Resident will continue to report crime cases affecting foreign resident and visitors in the region, which are always confirmed to us by the police. We hope that our reporting in itself and regular contact with the authorities will alert them to the need of stepping up security in the region.
