Thought-provoking material from Margaret Brown

Dear Editor,

Margaret Brown’s contribution last week was typically varied and interesting. The description of ‘Victor’ and his scam was exactly as my wife and I experienced in the Guia Retail Park at the weekend!

After all, anyone who is familiar with Algarve life is bound to know a plausible ‘Victor’-type acquaintance. And, not wishing to offend such a “friend”, courteous engagement is almost inevitable. However, as was usefully illustrated, it is advisable to dismiss such overtures to avoid being duped by such a potential con artist. Margaret raises another point, though, which is slightly less palatable.

As was highlighted, there is nothing wrong with horse meat. However, the recent furore on this issue is surely based on the fact that one is entitled to know what one is eating. The purchase of beef, venison or whatever (including horse meat) entails getting exactly what one has paid for: nothing more; nothing less.

Overall, Margaret Brown has again succeeded in providing interesting, thought-provoking material in an entertaining style. Similarly, on this occasion, we have been provided with some very useful food for thought!
