More than 35,000 euros was raised for local charities during the 11th annual Wolf Valley Charity Fund (WVCF) golf and family day held on June 5 in Vale do Lobo.
During the event guests were able to take part in two raffles, buy items from the book and cake stalls, play on the bouncy castle and admire a display of racing and sports cars.
Golfers took part in competitions on both the Ocean and Royal courses, with 152 players taking to the greens and fairways with the chance for participants to win one of two cars if they were lucky enough to get a hole in one, winning an Audi A6 on the 16th hole of the Royal course or a Volkswagen Passat on the 15th hole of the Ocean course.

Although nobody took home either of the cars, winners on the day were Poul and Vibeke Snorgaard with 46 points on the Royal course and Harry Wiggins and Paula Marques with 48 points on the Ocean course.
Algarve resident Clive Dunn, a long term patron and supporter of the charity and former actor on the popular BBC drama Dad’s Army, signed copies of his autobiography Permission to Speak.
There was also a chance to taste some wines from Quinta das Bágeiras as Jane Tartaglia presented examples from the Bairrada area of Portugal, including some sparkling wines ,and Mónica Pinto of Garrafeira Soares also provided a number of wines to taste from the Herdade da Malhadinha Nova vineyard.
To coincide with the event, Algarve Racing launched their latest Ultimate Horsepower Experience and displayed a number of the vehicles involved in their packages including a Crownline V8 speedboat and a Robinson R44 helicopter which was used to carry out a number of sightseeing trips.
Algarve Racing also provided a number of raffle prizes and donated all the proceeds of their raffle to the WVCF.
Peter Geer, president of the WVCF, said: “The charity day was well supported by a wide cross section of the community and I would like to thank local businesses, restaurants, residents, friends and well wishers for their support and donations as well as the Vale do Lobo group which has helped make the charity day such a great success. The Wolf Valley Charity Fund really can make a difference to those less fortunate.”
The traditional dinner with auction that usually takes place on the same weekend will now be held later in the year to help raise further funds.
Over the last 11 years, the WVCF has raised more than 675,000 euros after being founded by a group of Vale do Lobo residents with the aim to support local Portuguese charities and people in need.
