Silves is getting ready for its 8th Medieval Fair, to be held from August 9 to 15.
The popular event aims to recreate medieval life in Silves, the former capital of the Kingdom of the Algarve, having its castle as the perfect backdrop.
For seven days, locals and visitors to Silves will be travelling back in time to find themselves mingling with knights and dames, kings and queens, peasants and beggars, as well as be able to hire medieval costumes for €2 and join them for the occasion.
In a truly unique atmosphere, visitors will be able to experience the tastes, sights and sounds of the period between the 8th and the 13th century.
You can purchase a variety of Moroccan goods, arts and crafts, jewellery, sweets and much more from stalls spread out through the historical city centre as well as eat at the medieval taverns and enjoy live music and dance performances in the streets.
The festival, which is free to enter, is open each day from 6pm until 1am.
