Dear Editor,
Does the Government want to kill off tourism in the Algarve forever?
The last thing a tourist wants to think about on holiday is the hassle of having to buy a chip to put in his own car or hire car for the privilege of using a road that his taxes in his own country has largely paid for through EU subsidies!
Even if tolls were to be imposed on locally funded roads, no tourists have bank accounts in Portugal and no tourist in his right mind is going to hand over his bank details for a toll fee when bank fraud and identity theft is increasing at an alarming rate.
If the Government really wants to put the tourism industry in jeopardy, then at least give the local construction industry some work by building conventional toll booths and create some local jobs for toll booth operators.
I sincerely hope the press and sensibly minded people will force an end this crazy idea.
