Dear Editor,
Why don’t they raise the cost of annual road tax, which is ridiculously cheap in comparison with UK and cover road costs that way? They would get money from every road user – Mum who only goes to the school or the shops or the old couple who take the car out every Sunday, instead of hitting people who need to travel to work.
The wise ones will always find a way of avoiding paying and I wonder how many chips will be cloned in some way. I would feel very unhappy about having my bank account debited.
Have you also thought there is a touch of “Big Brother” here, which is perhaps more of a reason for this move?
Previously when you bought anything substantial like a washing machine, you had to give your “contribuinte” number and there was a form of tracking. That does not happen now for everyday things, but with a chip on every car it is just as much an invasion of privacy as “Google” taking a satellite picture of your house.
